Lecture and Exercises

Module 2: Saturday, July 27th and Sunday, July 28th 2002

Abstract

Have you ever imagined being someone else? The popstar on the posters everywhere, the cool hero on TV or maybe someone present in everyday life, like the postman? If your answer is yes, then you have taken the first step into roleplaying. The second step would be to enrich this fictional character and to put her/him into a fictional surrounding. And that is pretty much what we are going to do.

Course Outline

What is roleplaying?

The course starts with an introduction of the three different kinds of roleplaying: paper&pen, live and online. After studying and discussing these, we will take a closer look at paper&pen roleplaying, using the "Cyberpunk" roleplaying system. Each participant will create her/his own Cyberpunk-character, including a backstory, defining attributes and equipment. The next step will be to learn the rules of interaction, set by the Cyberpunk-system. Once this last obstacle is overcome, you will be ready to take your character on a journey into the world of Cyberpunk. Endless worlds of imagination await you. But.. since we do not have unlimited time, we will only be able to play a few scenes. However, there is a possibility to play again on Sunday, if some of you really want to explore the possibilities of paper&pen roleplaying.
