The Evolution of Narrative and Drama with the Development of New Media

Inga von Staden

Lecture

Module 2: Monday, July 8 th 2002

Abstract

This is short review on the evolution of narrative and dramatic content with the development of new media and technologies. Starting with the analysis of films that show fractured narrative structures, we continue to look at new media titles from the low frequency interaction of adventures to the multi user interaction of simulations. The lecture ends where the course begins: when information becomes an object and interaction transforms into communication. Where does that leave narrative and drama?
